Chukars Add Appy League Arms

The Kansas City Royals have reassigned right-handed pitchers Cole Lohden and Robert Penny to the Idaho Falls Chukars Friday. Both pitchers were playing with the Burlington Royals, who were eliminated from the Appalachian League playoffs Thursday.

Robert Penny was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the 37th round this June out of Pitt Community College in North Carolina. The six-foot-three 215 pound Penny is a native of Whiteville, North Carolina, which is only 150 miles away from the Burlington Royals home ballpark. While with the Royals, Penny went 1-1 with a 1.75 ERA 18 relief appearances and one start. Over 46 and a third innings Penny allowed only 37 hits and finished with 36 strikeouts while recording five saves. At Pitt CC this spring Penny went 10-1 with a 3.12 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 66 and a third innings.

Cole Lohden comes to the Chukars after going 1-4 with a 3.74 ERA in 17 relief appearances with the Burlington Royals. The Frisco, Texas native had 32 strikeouts and allowed only 30 hits in 33 and two thirds innings in the Appalachian League. Lohden, who stands six-foot-four and weighs 220 pounds, was selected in the 33rd round of this year's June draft out of Southern Arkansas University. While playing for the Muleriders this spring, Lohden went 6-2 with a 4.10 ERA and had 69 strikeouts in 59 and a third innings.

The Chukars start a three-game homestand tonight with a 7:15 game against the Orem Owlz at Melaleuca Field.
