Owlz Push Past Chukars Late

(Idaho Falls, ID) The Orem Owlz (11-20) scored six runs over the last three innings on their way to a 9-7 win over the Idaho Falls Chukars (16-13) on Wednesday night at Melaleuca Field in Idaho Falls.

The Owlz matched a season-high with 15 hits with eight of those hits coming in the seventh and eighth innings. The Owlz trailed the Chukars 6-3 going into the seventh inning and scored three runs thanks to back-to-back run-scoring triples from Brandon White and Anthony Mulrine and then an RBI single from Will Wilson.

A wild pitch gave the Owlz a 7-6 lead in the eighth and then Mulrine connected on his first home run of the season, a two-run shot, extending the Owlz lead to 9-6.

The Owlz opened the scoring on Wednesday in the first inning on a D'Shawn Knowles sacrifice fly but the Chukars hit three solo homers to take a 3-0 lead after the second inning.

After the Owlz tied the game in the fourth inning on a Johan Sala two-run double, the Chukars regained the lead in the fifth inning on a Michael Emodi double.

Idaho Falls brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth by Shane Kelso (1) was able to close the door, earning the save. Seth Ballew (1-1) picked up the win while Chih-Ting Wang (3-1) was charged with the loss. The Owlz return home to start a three-game series with the Grand Junction Rockies Thursday night at 7:05.
