Bullpen Falters Late as Chukars Split Series

July 18, 2019 - Pioneer League (PL)
Idaho Falls Chukars News Release

Idaho Falls, ID - Holding the lead after six innings, the Chukars were in the catbird seat going into the seventh inning, but that's where the game changed. Orem scored three in the seventh inning to tie, and then took the lead in the eighth with another three spot. Idaho Falls only got one back, falling 9-7. The Chukars split the four game series with the Owlz, and hold a two game lead over second place Missoula.

Orem struck in the first for the second straight night, as Jeremiah Jackson started the rally with a double off the left field wall. Jackson got to third on a wild pitch and scored on a sacrifice fly from D'Shawn Knowles.

Coming into the game, the Chukars had hit only one home run in the series, but changed that in a hurry. With two out in the bottom of the first, Clay Dungan lauched a moonshot to right, his second of the season, to tie the game at one. In the bottom of the second, Juan Carlos Negret started the inning with a blast to left, and Isaiah Henry immediately followed with a blast of his own to dead center, making it 3-1 Chukars.

The Owlz tied the game in the fourth inning, as with two on and two out, Johan Sala doubled into the right center field gap, knotting the game at three. Idaho Falls though punched back, as Michael Emodi doubled with two out and two on, making it 5-3 Chukars. Another run scored in the sixth inning as a Henry triple scored on an error.

However, Orem tied the game at six in the seventh inning, as the Owlz started the inning with five straight hits, scoring three runs. In the eighth inning, a leadoff triple from Adrian Rondon scored on a wild pitch, making it 7-6 Orem. With one on, Anthony Mulrine blasted a ball to left center for his first career home run, making it 9-6.

The Chukars got a run back on back to back doubles from Rhett Aplin and Negret, but couldn't get any closer.

After an off day tomorrow, the Chukars hit the road for an 11 game trip, starting on Friday in Billings. First pitch on Friday is at 6:35 PM, with the pregame show hitting the airwaves of ESPN 980 The Sports Zone at 6:20.
