Owlz Lose Third Straight
July 7, 2019 - Pioneer League (PL)
Northern Colorado Owlz News Release
(Orem, UT) - The Owlz (7-15) lost their third consecutive game as their home struggles continued, dropping the second game of a three-game series with the Grand Junction Rockies (12-10), 6-3.
For the third consecutive game, the Owlz opponent opened the scoring as the Rockies put a three-spot on the board in the fifth inning. Eddy Diaz got the Rockies started by singling in a run and then Cristopher Navarro, drove in a pair, lining a single down the right-field line to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Owlz snapped a 14 inning scoreless streak in the sixth when Adrian Rondon cut the deficit to 3-2 on a two-run homer to left, his second of the season.
Grand Junction added insurance runs in the seventh and eighth innings before the Owlz closed the gap to two on a Rondon RBI triple.
The Rockies would snatch that run back in the ninth on a Navarro single, giving the Rockies shortstop three RBIs for the game.
That would be the closest the Owlz would get, losing the second game of the series, 6-3, to the Rockies. Cayden Hatcher (2-2) earned the win in relief while Clayton Chatham (0-2) was charged with the loss as Eric Hepple (3) picked up the save. The Owlz and the Rockies finish the series Monday night at 7:05. Monday night is Star Wars Night. For tickets, visit goowlz.com or call the Owlz at (801)-377-BALL (2255).
