Owlz Let Ten Run Lead Slip Away in 15-11 Loss

(Great Falls) - The Owlz led 10-0 going into the top of the third inning but dropped the series finale to the Great Falls Voyagers, 15-11 on Friday night.

Kevin Maitan opened the scoring for the Owlz in the top of the first inning, lining a solo home run over the center field wall, giving the Owlz a 1-0 lead. Kiki Menendez opened the second inning with a walk and moved to second base on a wild pitch before scoring on a Griffin Barnes single. The Owlz added runs on a Nonie Williams bases-loaded walk and a Maitan fielder's choice, extending the Owlz lead to 4-0.

The Owlz big inning came in the third and was started with a Kiki Menendez two-run homer, pushing the Owlz lead to 6-0. The Owlz scored four more in the frame to jump out to a 10-0 lead.

Great Falls would go on to score the next 14 runs, beginning with a Corey Zangari solo homer in the bottom of the third, his first of three home runs in the game. The Voyagers went on to score five runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, and four in the sixth to grab an 11-10 lead.

The Voyagers went on to score three more runs in the seventh before the Owlz scored a run in the eighth on a fielder's choice.

Great Falls' reliever Wyatt Burns (2-0) earned the win while Luis Alvarado (0-1) was charged with the loss for the Owlz. The Owlz will begin a series in Billings on Saturday night at 6:00.
