Billings Mustangs News Release

BILLINGS, Montana - The Billings Mustangs (11-17) won their second straight game, 6-5 over the Grand Junction Rockies (13-15) to split their four-game series in front of 2,934 at Dehler Park.

Mac Sceroler (1-2) had his best outing of the year to earn his first win with Billings. The righty went five shutout innings while tying a career-high with eight strikeouts. He would not issue a walk and gave up just three hits.

Billings managed to score two runs in each of the first three innings off Rockies starter Wander Cabera (1-2). Zeek White led off the game with a triple, his second in as many at-bats, and immediately scored on Dylan Harris' grounder to short. Mariel Bautista, playing in his first game in eight days, doubled in his first at-bat back in the lineup and scored on Bren Spillane's RBI single.

White added to the lead with a double in the second to score Nadir Ljatifi. White now has five hits in six games since his return to the Pioneer League; all five hits are for extra bases. He would have the only multi-hit night for the Mustangs.

After taking a 6-0 lead in the third, the Mustangs had to fend off Grand Junction the rest of the way. They would score the next five runs in the game to pull within one in the eighth and put the tying run in scoring position multiple times.

The Rockies plated four in the sixth on three hits, riding the three-RBI double of Javier Guevara. They got their final run on an RBI single from Daniel Montano in the eighth and put the tying run at second in both the eighth and ninth.

Dauri Moreta earned his second save by throwing the last inning and one-third. The Mustangs pitching staff combined for 14 strikeouts and have struck out 31 over the last two games.

The Mustangs now host the Orem Owlz for a three-game series starting Saturday at Dehler Park. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
