Niagara IceDogs News Release

The over agers were the story as both Alex Friesen and David Pacan scored twice in their final regular season home game to help the IceDogs defeat the Ottawa 67's 7-3 in front of a sellout crowd of 3,145.

The first period saw the IceDogs fall behind 1-0 as Ottawa would strike first on the powerplay just over two minutes in. The IceDogs would make sure that did not last long as Steven Shipley continued his strong play by beating Ottawa starter Michael Nishi to tie things up at 1-1. They would not stop there however as Alex Friesen and Brett Ritchie would both strike before the end of the frame to make it 3-1 in favour of the home side after 20 minutes. Shots after one were 16-10 Niagara.

Ottawa would open the scoring in the second period closing the IceDogs lead to 3-2, but Joel Wigle would score a key goal with less than a minute left in the second to restore the IceDogs lead to 4-2 headed into the intermission. Shots after 40 minutes favoured the IceDogs 31-17.

The IceDogs kept the momentum going in the third as David Pacan and Friesen would score less than a minute apart in the first three minutes of the third to make it 6-2. Ottawa would score shortly after, just as time was expiring on an IceDogs five on three penalty kill to close the gap to 6-3, but Pacan would close out the scoring with a shorthanded goal for his second of the period to make it a 7-3 final.

Christopher Festarini picked up the win for the IceDogs, stopping 22 shots for the victory. The three stars were swept by the IceDogs overagers as Captain Andrew Agozzino picked up the third star, Friesen the second star and Pacan the first star in their final regular season home game in Niagara.

The IceDogs will now close out their regular season by visiting the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors tomorrow afternoon at 2pm. The IceDogs will then return home Thursday to host the Oshawa Generals in game one of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal. Tickets for both Thursday's game and Sunday's game three are now on sale and can be purchased at all IceDogs ticketing locations.
