Outlaws Tie Season High In Runs; Blow Out Capitals 20-5
August 11, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Chico Outlaws News Release
The Chico Outlaws make no bones about it; they love to hit on the road! Smacking a season-high 27 hits on Tuesday night at Telus Field in a 20-5 win over the Capitals, the Outlaws also snapped a three-game losing skid.
Kris Honel (7-2) got the win in his return to Edmonton, where he pitched in 2009 before being traded to the Long Beach Armada mid-season for Jose Lima. Throwing 112 pitches, 69 of them for strikes, Honel went six innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits and striking out five.
Seven of the eight position players for Chico had multi-hit games, with first baseman Mark Samuelson stealing the show by going 5 for 7 with 8 RBIs in the contest. Samuelson, a rookie, is now leading the GBL in hitting with a .409 average.
Edmonton starter Daryl Arreola, also a GBL All-Star, got roughed up in his 3.2 innings of work, surrendering nine runs before giving way to the bullpen. Former Outlaws Jesse Oster (4 runs) and Berek Fasking (6 runs) did not fare much better in their stints on the hill.
David Dinelli pitched two innings in relief of Honel, while John Urick, usually a first baseman, made his season debut as a pitcher in the ninth. Urick needed just 11 pitches to mow down the final three hitters of the game for Edmonton.
The Outlaws got out of the gate fast, plating seven runs in the first two innings and never looking back, improving to 10-10 in the second half with the win. Edmonton fell to 9-11 with the loss while playing their first home game since the resignation of manager Brent Bowers last week due to inappropriate conduct towards an umpire in a game against Orange County.
The Outlaws and Capitals will play game two of this four game series on Wednesday night in Edmonton.
There is no audio or video coverage of the games in Edmonton this week. Fans can catch the Outlaws games in Victoria starting Saturday night on the Seals Baseball Network with Mike Walker, the play by play voice of the Seals at http://victoriaseals.ca/
The next broadcast on the Outlaws Baseball Network will be Thursday night, August 19th at 7:05 pm as the Outlaws host Maui. Fans can catch all the action with Dan Hawkins starting at 6:50 pm. Watch live on www.justin.tv.com/chicooutlawsbaseball or audio only at www.chicooutlaws.com.
OUTLAWS NOTES:....the Outlaws did not commit an error in the game, marking the first time in four games they have accomplished that feat....Samuelson's 8 RBI's in the game established a season high in that department....the only other time Chico scored 20 runs in a game, Kris Honel was also the pitcher of record. The Outlaws scored 20 runs during Honel's seven-inning no-no in Tijuana back on May 23rd.
