Outlaws All Over Caps In Opener
August 11, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Edmonton Capitals News Release
The Edmonton Capitals were crushed 20-5 by the Chico Outlaws in their homecoming to TELUS Field on Tuesday. It was the team's first home action after a 10-game road trip and their first of 13 straight games at TELUS.
It certainly wasn't the way the Caps wanted to start their pivotal homestand, as the Outlaws pummelled Edmonton's pitching staff for 20 runs on 27 hits. Leading the way for Chico was first baseman Mark Samuelson, who drove a remarkable eight runs across the plate. Third baseman Santo Deleon also had a big night, driving in four runs.
Caps starting pitcher Daryl Arreola ended up with the loss, giving up nine runs and 11 hits in 3.2 innings while striking out five. Jesse Oster, Berek Fasking and Ryan Paul each threw relief innings with similar results. Centre fielder Ryan Stevenson, short stop Enrique Cruz and second baseman Matt Rogelstad each had three hits in the loss. Stevenson scored three of the Caps' four runs and is second in the GBL with 60 runs in 2010.
The Caps (9-11) and Outlaws (10-10) are both in a heated battle to catch up to the Calgary Vipers (14-6) in the Golden Baseball League's North Division second-half standings. Since Chico won the North first half, the Caps must either win the second half or finish with the next best overall record if Chico repeats.
Despite the lopsided series-opening loss, fans were treated to Family Vision Care Tuesday, as all-you-can-drink slushies were just $2. And when the four-game series continues Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at TELUS, it'll be another Wieners Wednesday, as Capital Dogs are on special for just $2.
The Capitals are Edmonton's first choice for professional baseball and family entertainment. Season seats start at less than $9 per game and are available pro-rated for the balance of the season. Individual game tickets are available for just $10 every game. Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster locations, the TELUS Field Box Office during regular business hours, by calling (780) 414-GOAL (4625) or online at capsbaseball.ca.
