August 11, 2010 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Tucson Toros News Release
The Tucson Toros dropped the first of a five game series against the Calgary Vipers 10-4 Tuesday night as Toros 1B Cristobal Santana tied the longest hitting streak of the GBL this season.
Calgary's 4 run 2nd inning helped them to jump out to an early 5-0 lead over the Toros. The Toros' early deficit was fueled by 2 RBI singles by Calgary 1B Caonabo Cosme and 3B Brent Metheny.
It was not until the top of the 4th when the Toros broke onto the scoreboard when Santana hit an RBI single. With that single, Santana increased his hitting streak to 20 straight games and is now tied with Chico's Ismael Castro for the longest hitting streak of the GBL this season.
Calgary tacked on 3 more runs in the next 3 innings to increase their lead 8-2. However, Santana struck again in the top of the 8th inning with a 1-out 2-run single that cut the Viper's lead in half. Santana finished the night 2-for-4 with 3 RBI.
Calgary added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the 8th inning that helped secure them the 10-4 victory. Toros starting pitcher John Bannister got the loss, his 3rd of the year, after allowing 7 runs in 5 innings of work while opposing starting pitcher Mac Suzuki was awarded his 1st win of the season after allowing just 2 runs while striking out 5.
Tucson will play a double-header against Calgary tomorrow starting at 4:05 PM Tucson time.
