Chico Outlaws News Release
(Chico, CA) After a four-day hiatus, the Chico Outlaws returned to action on Friday night at Nettleton Stadium, falling 2-1 to the Calgary Vipers and losing their fifth consecutive game at home.
The five consecutive losses is a new franchise record, eclipsing the previous mark of four losses, which was done twice during the 2008 season.
Garret Holleran took the ball for Chico and pitched well, going seven solid innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits, striking out two. Holleran threw 99 pitches in economical fashion, but ended up with a no-decision.
Reggie Rivard started for the visitors and pitched six innings, surrendering one earned run on seven Outlaws' hits.
The visitor's got the first run of the game in the top of the fourth when center fielder Julio Ramirez singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch by Holleran with one out. One batter later, GBL All-Star left fielder Drew Miller hit a ground ball to Outlaws' third baseman Santo DeLeon, who threw high of first baseman Mark Samuelson, enabling Ramirez to score from third on the error.
Chico tied it up at 1-1 in the home half of the fourth when catcher Mike Rose doubled with one out. After a single by Samuelson put two runners on, DeLeon plated Rose with an RBI single for the Outlaws lone run of the contest.
Calgary touched Outlaws' reliever Rusty (1-2) in the eighth after Jones got the first two outs of the inning. Consecutive walks to Ramirez and Kevin Price set the stage for a Miller RBI single, giving the Snakes a 2-1 lead.
Jordan Muir (2-0) pitched a scoreless seventh inning and earned the win in relief for Calgary, now 11-6 and in first place in the GBL North. Closer Claudio Galva pitched a 1-2-3 ninth to record his 13th save of the year.
Josh Dew pitched an inning and a third of scoreless relief for Chico.
The Outlaws drop to 9-8 in the second half, two games back of the Vipers in the GBL North.
The three game series between the Outlaws and Vipers continues on Saturday night for game two. Leftie Demetrius Banks (8-1, 3.21 ERA) starts opposites the Vipers' Dusty Gober (6-1, 5.42 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 pm.
Fans can catch all the action on the Outlaws Baseball Network with Dan Hawkins starting at 6:50 pm. Watch live on www.justin.tv.com/chicooutlawsbaseball or audio only at www.chicooutlaws.com.
