Edmonton Capitals Manager Suspended For Season for Anti-Gay Rant

Published on August 7, 2010 under Golden Baseball League (GBL) News Release

San Ramon, CA - The Golden Baseball League announced today that Edmonton Capitals Manager Brent Bowers is being suspended for the remainder of the season due to an anti-gay rant that he directed at an umpire this past weekend in a game against the Orange County Flyers in Fullerton, CA.

Bowers was initially suspended for his teams next two games this week as the league investigated the incident and worked with the Capitals on the consequences of the incident. Bowers and Edmonton Capitals President Patrick LaForge met with GBL Commissioner Kevin Outcalt Friday in San Francisco to complete the investigation.

In an unusual move he was suspended prior to the investigation being completed based on the serious nature of initial reports and the Capitals need to go through their employee discipline processes. That was completed today and results in the suspension for the rest of the season. The Capitals support this suspension as neither the league nor the team tolerates personal attacks of this nature or of any kind.
