Rockford Aviators News Release
EVANSVILLE - The Evansville Otters defeated the Rockford Aviators in walkoff fashion Wednesday night in what was supposed to be Game 1 of a doubleheader at Bosse Field. Heavy rain toward the end of Game 1 put the brakes on those plans, and Game 2 was rescheduled to Thursday.
The Otters got out to an early lead in the first by posting a tally on Aviator starter Payton Baskette. The Aviators drew even in the third, loading the bases with 0 outs ahead of Devon Rodriguez, who drew a walk to bring in Raul Linares.
Evansville was able to add another in the 4th and led 2-1 heading to the 6th, when Josh Davis equalized the score by swatting his first pro homer over the left field wall. The Aviators would then take the lead in the top of the 7th and final inning on an RBI by Brian Bistagne that once again scored Linares.
The victory was not to be though, as the Otters got a man on in the bottom of the 7th via walk from Aviators closer Patrick Dolan. Kurt Wertz, Jr. then came to the plate for the home squad, and, as a heavy rain started to fall at Bosse Field, Wertz teed off for a homer to right center field that turned a 3-2 deficit into a 4-3 Otter win. It was the first walkoff win for the team at Bosse Field this year.
Plans to start Game 2 a half hour after Game 1 were quickly put on hold as the rain continued to fall in Evansville. Roughly 25 minutes after Game 1 went final, the decision was made to reschedule Game 2 to Thursday, which means the Aviators and Otters will finish their series with a doubleheader tomorrow, August 20th beginning at 5:35 pm CT.
Tony Rizzotti and Roberto Padilla are expected to start for the Aviators.
