Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
WASHINGTON, PA - The Washington Wild Things scored six runs in the first inning to take a lead they would not give up as the ThunderBolts dropped their second straight game, 12-4 at CONSOL Energy Park Wednesday night.
Austin Gallagher got the ThunderBolts (33-46) out to a first-inning lead for the second straight night when he hit a solo home run.
Washington (34-46) responded with a big bottom of the first. They sent ten men to the plate and scored six runs. Scott Kalamar and Jimmy Yezzo picked up RBI singles, David Popkins hit a sacrifice fly, Austin Wobrock had an RBI double and Daniel Poma drove in two runs on a triple.
Danny Jimenez came on out of the Windy City bullpen to make his first relief appearance in over three years and threw 4.2 scoreless innings.
That kept the Bolts within five at the start of the sixth when Gallagher led off with his second home run of the night. Max White followed with his third homer in as many games to cut the Washington lead to 6-3. With two outs in the same inning, Ransom LaLonde and Alex Chittenden singled and Tyler Clark's second double of the game drove in a run to make it 6-4.
Washington ran away with it late, scoring two runs in the seventh on back-to-back RBI singles with two outs for Poma and Wobrock.
Yezzo's three-run homer in the eighth pushed the Wild Things further ahead with Kalamar also hitting an RBI double in the inning to make the final 12-4.
Luke Wilkins (7-3) allowed four runs in 5.2 innings for the win while Zak Wasserman (4-5) failed to get out of the first and took the loss.
The ThunderBolts and Wild Things will close up their series on Thursday night. Game three will see Cameron Giannini (4-0, 1.46) take the mound for Windy City against the Wild Things' Jon Klein (3-0 2.59). First pitch from CONSOL Energy Park on Thursday is scheduled for 6:05 and the broadcast can be heard on WXAV 88.3 FM and wxav.com.
