Last time out...
The Freedom and the Slammers were rained out on Tuesday. Florence took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back in an 8-1 victory over the Gateway Grizzlies on Sunday. A Zac Mitchell RBI triple in the first followed by an Austin Newell RBI grounder made it 2-0 in favor of the Freedom. The Freedom added to their lead in the fourth. Collins Cuthrell started a two-out rally with a triple into deep center field. Ozzy Gonzalez plated Cuthrell on a RBI single. Florence pulled away in the fifth. Travis Weaver led off with a single. Steve Carrillo reached on a fielders' choice and moved to second on a Daniel Fraga single. Zac Mitchell singled to load the bases. Austin Newell cleared the bases with a three-RBI triple. Newell came into score on a wild pitch to cap the scoring. Florence starter Chuck Weaver (6-4) tossed seven innings allow one run on just three hits as he fanned nine to earn his sixth win of the season.
For Starters...
Jeremy Gooding makes his 12th start of the season tonight for the Freedom. He is looking for his first win since July 24, a 2-1 victory over Southern Illinois. Since then the Freedom have lost three of his starts in a row by scores of 2-0, 1-0 and 8-7. Gooding got a no-decision in his most recent start, am 8-7 loss to Normal on August 12 as he went five and a third innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on six hits with two walks and eight strike outs. The 24 year old went to school at Madonna University in Michigan. He made his professional debut in 2014 with the Fort Worth Cats of the United League. He also pitched with Amarillo of the American Association in 2014 and compiled a record of 2-2 with a 1.62 ERA in 8 starts between the two organizations. He struck out 56 batters in 55.2 innings and tossed two complete games with one shutout.
Slamming Joliet...
The Freedom have a 5-1 record this year against the Joliet Slammers after going 4-2 against Joliet in 2014. Florence took two of three from the Slammers at Silver Cross Field August 7-9 and swept Joliet at UC Health Stadium to start the year May 14-16.
Rare road issues...
The Freedom have a .500 record on the road at 18-18 but they have suffered four straight road defeats, matching their longest road losing streak of the season.
Mr. Clutch...
Austin Newell leads active Freedom players with a .385 batting average with runners in scoring position in 39 at bats. On top of that he is hitting a team best .467 in 15 at bats with runners in scoring position and two outs.
One-run problems...
The Freedom are the worst team in the league in one-run games with a record of 7-14.
Offensive woes...
Florence has scored fewer than three runs in 33 games this season and they've been shutout six times. Florence is 3-30 when scoring fewer than three runs in a contest. Their team batting average of .245 is the second worst in the league. Luckily the Slammers have the second worst team ERA in the league at 4.60.

The Freedom have the best fielding percentage in the Frontier League at .982.

The Freedom have drawn 291 walks this season, tied for the second most in the league.

The Freedom have stolen 125 bases this season, the most in the Frontier League. They have also been caught 59 times, the most in the league.

The Freedom traded catcher Matt Rubino to the Sonoma Stompers in exchange for catcher Isaac Wenrich after Sunday's game.
