Otters Sloppy in Crazy Loss

Aug. 12, 2008, Evansville, Ind. - The Otters trailed 7-0 after a half inning, but Evansville did not give up, coming back to tie the game after the second inning, but Gateway had more firepower the rest of the game as they topped Evansville 12-8 on Tuesday night at Bosse Field.

Evansville committed five errors that lead to seven unearned runs for Gateway, as five of those came in the seven run first inning. The Otters were able to pull even after the second inning as they scored six runs on seven hits to chase Gateway starter Brandon Williams, but the Grizzlies bullpen allowed just one run the rest of the game.

Evansville starter Ricky Bauer (7-5) just lasted three innings, as they Grizzlies pounded him for seven hits, on their way to 16 hits on the night. The Otters had a great night at the plate as well knocking Grizzlies pitching for 12 hits, and Jose Pineda led the way going 3-5 with a run scoring double.

The Otters head back to the diamond on Wednesday night in game two of the series against the Grizzlies. Evansville native Adam Rogers will take the mound for the Otters with first pitch slated for 7:05 CDT.
