Grizzlies take series opener

EVANSVILLE, IN- The Gateway Grizzlies took a 7-0 lead after one inning Tuesday, saw the lead disappear then came back for a 12-8 win over the Evansville Otters at Bosse Field.

The Grizzlies (41-35) scored seven runs thanks to six hits and three Evansville errors in the first. It is the 29th time this season the Grizzlies have scored at least one first inning run. They have now scored 86 first inning runs this season.

Evansville (32-44) scored an unearned run in the first, then six runs in the second to tie the score and chase Grizzlies starter Brandon Williams. Williams lasted just 1.2 innings, it was the shortest outing of his season.

The Grizzlies added single runs in the third, fourth and eighth innings to lead 9-8. Charlie Lisk crushed his 20th home run of the year in the fourth. The runs in the third and eighth inning each scored on errors.

Mike Breyman and Lisk each picked up two-out RBI hits in the ninth to extend the Grizzlies lead to 12-8.

Breyman finished 2-5 with a single and a double. He now has 431 hits for his Frontier League career, leaving him 18 hits from the all-time mark.

Lisk was 3-5 with three RBIs. Alex Kerins finished 3-5 with a double, two singles and an RBI.

Shaun Siebert (1-1) allowed just a run in 4.1 innings of relief work for his first win as a pro. He struck out five and walked one. Joel Boeschen earned his third save of the year, tossing three scoreless innings.

The Grizzlies and Otters play game two of the three-game series Wednesday night at Bosse Field. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
