
Otters Rally Back Twice for 7-5 Win over Miners

(EVANSVILLE, INDIANA) - b0 The Evansville Otters surged back from two seperate deficits in a come-from-behind 7-5 victory over the Southern Illinois Miners on Wednesday night.
A four-run seventh inning propelled Evansville to the win after a game tying two-run single from Taylor Black and a go-ahead fielder's choice from infielder Luis Parache.
Southern Illinois jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, adding to the advantage with another run in the second and a third run in the fourth.
Down 3-0, the Otters answered back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Evansville started with four consecutive hits as Luis Parache hit an RBI double, Nick Schwaner followed with a run-producing single and outfielder DeAngelo Mack evened up the score with a fielder's choice.
Even at three, Miners infielder Jake Kaase then re-gained the lead for Southern Illinois with a solo home run in the fifth and added another RBI double in the seventh.
Trailing 5-3, the Otters responded again by scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh. Steve Marino, Billy Killian and Matt Sheely all led off the inning with singles as Black then hit a game-tying, two-RBI single to left field.
After a sacrifice bunt from infielder Greg Fontenot, Evansville took the lead on a fielder's choice from Parache and scored again on a sacrifice fly from Nick Schwaner.
Relievers Dan Marcacci and Patrick Crider would combine for a scoreless eighth inning and closer Eric Massingham pitched a scoreless ninth for a 5-3 Otters win.
Evansville has now won three out of four games on the homestand, improving to 26-35. Southern Illinois falls to 36-25 with the loss.
Marcacci (1-1) earns the win. He allowed a run in 1.0 innings as the Otters rallied back for the victory. Southern Illinois starter David Harden (6-4) takes the loss after yielding seven runs in 7.0 innings. Massingham also recorded his 15th save of the season.
Seven different Otters had hits in the win as the team will look for their second straight win on Thursday night. It is SWIN Chamber night and Thirsty Thursday at Historic Bosse Field with first pitch set for 6:35 p.m. Left-hander Matt Zielinski (4-5,4.63 Earned Run Average)will start for the Otters as he will be opposed by fellow lefty Brian Fowler (5-4, 2.91 ERA).
