JOLIET SLAMMERS (26-34) @ SCHAUMBURG BOOMERS (35-25)

Wednesday, July 25 - 6:30 p.m. CT

Schaumburg Boomers Stadium - Schaumburg, IL

Game #61 - Road Game #28 (26-34), (14-13)

Last time out...

The Slammers came back from six runs down to beat the Traverse City Beach Bums 7-6 in 12 innings. Traverse City put up a run in the second off a solo home run by Sean Gusrang to take a 1-0 lead. They piled on in the third with five runs, courtesy of an RBI double by Chase Burch, a two-run home run by Jeff Flagg, and a Marcus Nidiffer double to make it a six-run advantage. Joliet started chipping away in the fourth when Sean Estand doubled, and another run scored on a balk . In the fifth, Erik Lis slapped a run-scoring double, and David Christensen put Joliet within two off a single. Joliet powered back to tie it in the eighth when Estand lofted a sacrifice fly, and Patrick Norris knocked an RBI double. The 6-6 tie was finally broken in the top of the twelfth when Kyle Maunus went yard on a no-doubt homer to make it 7-6. Justin Albert threw five scoreless innings of relief for the win.

For Starters...

Jacob Sanchez has won his first three starts as a professional. Last time out he tossed a career high seven innings and beat the Windy City ThunderBolts by a score of 4-2. Sanchez scattered seven hits, walked two and struck out a career high four in the victory. Sanchez was the Midwest Collegiate Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2012. Sanchez finished the 2012 Iowa Wesleyan season with a 10-2 record and a 2.42 earned run average, including 111 strikeouts, 12 walks, 71 hits allowed and 28 runs allowed (25 earned) in 93 innings pitched. He led the MCC in strikeouts and innings pitched, was second in wins and third in earned run average and opponents' batting average (.208). Sanchez obliterated the Iowa Wesleyan single season strikeout record, becoming the first player in school history to go over 100 K's in a season, and also tied the school record for wins in a season. He also was a recipient of a Gold Glove award with one error in 29 chances in the field.

On the road...

The Slammers took two of three from Traverse City last series for their second consecutive road series win. Joliet now has a winning record on the road at 14-13 on the year.

Going the extra mile...

The Slammers have played two consecutive extra innings games, winning both of them. Joliet is 4-0 in extra innings this year, with all four games coming on the road.

Save me...

Last season Joliet native Ryan Quigley set the Frontier League's single-season record with 28 saves. Quigley is now in the Padres organization but former Angels farmhand Amalio Diaz has picked up right where Quigley left off. Diaz has a league-leading 15 saves on the year in 16 attempts.

Getting offensive...

Over the past 10 games five Slammers are hitting over the .300 mark with Abel Nieves leading the way at .429. Joining him are Brad Netzel (.395), David Christensen (5-14 through his first three games as a Slammer), Erik Lis (.324), and Kyle Maunus (.316).

Falling behind early...

The opponent has scored first against the Slammers 40 times this season. Joliet is 14-26 when that happens. The Slammers are 12-8 when they score first.

Netzel doing work...

Shortstop Brad Netzel has started to really pick up the pace at the plate this season. He has six multi-hit games over the past 10 contests with six RBI during that time frame.

Error indicator...

The Slammers are 8-27 in games when they make an error. They are 18-7 in games when they do not.

Out-hit...

When the Slammers out-hit an opponent they are 19-9, but when the opponent out-hits the Slammers Joliet has a record of 4-23.
