Brown Pitches Grizzlies to Win against Rascals

SAUGET, Ill. - Tim Brown pitched seven strong innings to propel the Grizzlies to a 5-2 win Wednesday night against the River City Rascals at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. It was the Grizzlies eighth win in their last nine games.
Brown (7-2) pitched into the seventh inning for the 13th time in 13 starts. The right-hander from St. Louis allowed eight hits and two runs while walking only one and striking out four.
The Grizzlies gave Brown run support early. Vladimir Frias picked up his second home run of the season in the second inning and the Grizzlies tacked on three more runs in the third inning to race out to a 4-0 lead. Rogelio Norris had a hit-by-pitch RBI, Chris McClendon collected a sacrifice fly and the Grizzlies scored another run on a passed ball.
River City (31-30) scored a run a piece in the sixth and seventh innings before Gateway (35-26) got an insurance run in the eighth on a Landon Hernandez RBI single.
Jordan Cudney worked a 1-2-3 eighth and Richard Barrett pitched the ninth inning to get his 10th save of the season.
Gateway walked eight times and only had six hits, with no player registering more than one hit.
The Grizzlies and Rascals play game two of the series Thursday night at T.R. Hughes Ballpark. Right-hander Alex Kaminsky (5-4) gets the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 7:05 CT.
