Erie Otters News Release

Saginaw, Michigan - The Erie Otters relied heavily on its penalty kill and a couple of quick goals early in the second and third periods to pull past the Saginaw Spirit 3-2 at the Dow Event Center Saturday night.

Saginaw applied offensive pressure early and got on the board first. Spirit winger Mike Davies tallied the game's first goal, sweeping behind the net and going top-shelf for his second of the season at 3:11. Erie killed three penalties in the frame and was able to capitalize on one of its two power play opportunities. The Otters put a flurry of shots on Evan Cormier on the man-advantage, and Vanya Lodnia finally got one past him. His sixth of the season and his third in three games tied the game with 18 seconds left in the first period.

Erie gathered the lead just over a minute into the second period. Taylor Raddysh and Alex DeBrincat drove the net and while Cormier made the initial stop, Kyle Makismovich chipped in the rebound to put the Otters up one. DeBrincat and Raddysh picked up assists on the goal.

The game remained 2-1 entering the third period. Once again, the Otters scored quickly in the period to extend their lead. Nick Betz's goal at 2:18 gave Erie the 3-1 advantage. Saginaw scored with 5:30 remaining to cut the lead back to one, but Erie ultimately held on, killing their fifth penalty of the night as time expired.

The Otters next game will be tomorrow, Sunday the 22nd in Flint against the Firebirds. Game time is scheduled for 5:00.
