IceDogs Fall to Sting
November 21, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Niagara IceDogs News Release
The Niagara IceDogs fell to the Sting by a score of 6-2 in Sarnia on Saturday night.
It would be Sarnia that would score first in the opening frame picking up a powerplay marker at the 7:47 mark of the first to make it 1-0. A fluke second goal for Sarnia would make it a 2-0 IceDogs deficit just under four minutes later. The IceDogs would battle back before the end of the period, as Johnny Corneil would roof one in front to get the visitors back within one and make it a 2-1 game after one. Shots after one were 13-9 Niagara.
In the second, the IceDogs would appear to tie things up on a Mikkel Aagaard powerplay goal, but replay would overturn the goal, showing that the shot went of the crossbar and the score remained 2-1. Unfortunately for the IceDogs, replay would go against the IceDogs again, as this time it would show that a Sarnia shorthanded effort just crept over the line to make it a 3-1 lead for the home side. That would be the lone goal of the period as the IceDogs headed to the third down a pair. Shots after 40 were 24-18 IceDogs.
The third period would be one to forget for the IceDogs as Sarnia would stretch the lead to 5-1 before Anthony DiFruscia would get one back on the powerplay to make it a 5-2 game with just over five to go in the third. Sarnia would add another before the end of the period, as the IceDogs fell by a final score of 6-2. Final shots were 34-27 for the visitors.
The IceDogs will now finish off their weekend by travelling to Windsor tomorrow afternoon to take on the Spitfires at 2:05. They will then return to St. Catharines where they will play host to the visiting Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds next Thursday, November 26th. Tickets for this and all other IceDogs home games are still available and can be purchased at any IceDogs ticketing location.
