Evansville Otters News Release
July 24, 2008, Rockford, Ill. - The Evansville Otters have made another big move in hopes of bolstering a sputtering offense, trading All-Star outfielder Justin Randall to the Florence Freedom for designated hitter Nick Salotti. Florence, in need of a player that can get on base in front of their sluggers, gets a player in Randall who sits fifth in the league in both batting average (.323) and on-base percentage (.424) while the Otters, needing a middle of the order type hitter, land Salotti, a .338 hitter with seven homeruns and 25 RBIs in 34 games to go with his .549 slugging percentage.
It was a tough decision to make for Evansville manager Jason Verdugo, but one that should benefit all parties involved. "It was an extremely tough decision to make; Justin is a kid with such high character and a great work ethic that has put together a tremendous season, but this is an opportunity for us to improve our team and make a move in the standings."
Evansville currently sits at 11th in the 12-team Frontier League in scoring, and adding a run producing bat for the middle of the lineup was a necessity if the Otters are to contend in the Western Division race.
