Otters Lose in Kitchener, 5-1

Kitchener, ON - The Erie Otters managed a season-high 50 shots on goal, but were stymied by John Gibson's 49 saves as the Kitchener Rangers won 5-1 Friday night at Kitchener Memorial Auditorium.

Tyler Randell scored the lone goal of the first period 30 seconds into the game as he knocked in a rebound from a Ryan Murphy shot to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.

The Rangers scored three more in the second to take a 4-0 lead, but the Otters broke the shutout with 2.9 seconds left in the period. Connor Brown smacked in a rebound from an Anthony Cortellessa shot for his team-leading 25th goal of the season.

Tobias Rieder scored his second goal of the game as he deflected a Murphy shot in the third period to complete the scoring for the Rangers.

J.P. Cesario made 33 saves for the Otters, who outshot the Rangers, 50-38.

Fan Appreciation Night is Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. The Otters celebrate St. Patrick's Day with special jerseys and green ice as Greg McKegg and the London Knights come into town.
