
Ducks Ink Gibson to Three-Year Entry-Level Contract

The Ducks have signed goaltender John Gibson to a three-year entry-level contract. Per club policy, no financial terms of the deal were disclosed.
Gibson, 18 (7/14/93), is tied for the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) lead in save percentage (.926 SV%, tied with teammate Franky Palazzese) this season. He has appeared in 31 games for Kitchener of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), going 20-10-3 with a 2.81 goals-against average (GAA). Currently seventh among league goaltenders in GAA, Gibson also ranks second among OHL rookie netminders in GAA, third in wins, and fourth in saves (1078). The Pittsburgh, PA native also represented Team USA at the 2012 World Junior Championship in Calgary and Edmonton, stopping 23-of-27 shots on Dec. 28 vs. Finland.
Selected in the second round (39th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft, Gibson appeared in 32 contests with the United States National Team's (USNTDP) Under-18 club in 2010-11, posting a 2.64 GAA and .918 SV%. The 6-3, 210-pound goaltender also led Team USA to a gold medal at the 2011 Under-18 World Championship in Germany. He helped the club go undefeated in the tournament (6-0) and posted back-to-back overtime wins against Canada and Sweden en route to the championship. Gibson was named the Best Goaltender of the tournament, compiling a 2.34 GAA and .926 SV%.
