Erie Otters News Release
The Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League continue a five-game road trip this weekend with three games in Eastern Ontario.
Friday the Otters travel to Kingston to face off against the Frontenacs at 7:30 p.m. Saturday Erie is in Belleville to meet the Bulls at 7:15 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. the Otters head to Ottawa to take on the 67's. All three games can be heard live on FOX Sports Radio AM 1330 The FAN and on-line at www.ottershockey.com (presented by the James H. Cross Company) beginning with the pre-game show 15 minutes prior to the opening face-off.
The Otters (22-21-2-0) enter the three-game weekend coming off a 6-3 win in Kitchener over the Rangers on Sunday. Mike Cazzola paced the Otters attack with two goals and an assist while Sean Jones netted a pair of goals. Tyler Hostetter was also an offensive presence with a goal and two assists as the Otters scored three times in 2:12 late in the third to win going away.
The victory marked the Otters fourth in their last five road games and left them tied with the Plymouth Whalers for sixth in the Western Conference.
The Otters face the last place Frontenacs to start their weekend. Kingston is 9-30-4-3 on the season and is coming off a 6-3 home loss to Saginaw on home ice Sunday.
Veteran forward Nathan Moon leads the Fronts in scoring with 16 goals and 23 assists for 39 points in 40 games. Rookie Ethan Werek's 19 goals are a Kingston high. Former Otters forward Kelly Geoffrey has collected three goals and eight assists for 11 points in 32 games with Kingston.
The Otters go from worst to first as Saturday night they meet the Eastern-Conference leading Bulls. Belleville has won their last four games, including a 5-3 victory over Ottawa on Wednesday, to improve to 30-13-2-2 on the season.
The Bulls feature two of the top scorers in the OHL in Bryan Cameron and Eric Tangradi. Cameron has 31 goals (third most in the OHL) and 28 assists for 59 points to rank fourth in OHL scoring while Tangradi's 57 points are tied for fifth. Former Otters forward Nick Palmieri has collected 18 points in 22 games with the Bulls.
The Otters wrap up their trip Sunday afternoon against the 67's. Ottawa is 26-16-2-2 on the season (prior to a home game Friday against Oshawa) to rate third in the Eastern Conference. Logan Couture leads the 67's in scoring with 46 points in 40 games while Corey Cowick is enjoying a breakout year with a team-high 28 goals.
The next Otters home games take place January 30th and 31st when the Oshawa Generals and Guelph Storm visit the Tullio Arena in a pair of 7 p.m. starts. The first 2,000 fans into the game against the Generals will receive a free cheesy role coupon courtesy of Taco Bell. First 1,000 fans into the game Saturday will receive an autograph book compliments of M.A. Sprickman Heating & Cooling and fans are invited to an Otters Meet and Greet immediately following the game.
