Majors Double Up Colts

Barrie, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors were on the road once again this evening to jumpstart another three-game weekend, and snapped their five-game losing skid with a win over the Barrie Colts, 4-2. As a result, the Majors record moves to 23-19-1-2 on the year.

Mississauga's Jared Gomes got the play started in the 1st period, with his goal coming at 6:19, while the assists went to William Wallén and Casey Cizikas. Barrie's Stefan Della Rovere quickly tied things up at 12:29 on a man-advantage, with help from Alex Hutchings and Taylor Carnevale.

With only 46 seconds into the 2nd period, Casey Cizikas wired the puck into the Colts' net to give the Majors a 2-1 lead. Kaspars Daugavins was the lone helper. Then, both teams traded goals, as Barrie's Colin Behenna connected at 14:13 off of a lone pass from Michael Sgarbossa to knot the contest. Gomes produced a marker at 16:28 (power-play) to put Mississauga ahead 3-2, heading into intermission. Cizikas and Blake Parlett provided the feeds.

Jesse Messier got the lone goal in the 3rd period at 3:13, with assists coming from Daugavins and Mike Pelech, to put the game away for the Majors.

JP Anderson got the start in net and turned aside 33 shots for the Majors, while Michael Hutchinson made 31 saves for the Colts. Mississauga went 2 for 4 on the power-play, while Barrie finished 1 for 6 on the night. The game's three stars were Gomes (1st), Anderson (2nd) and Behenna (3rd).

Mississauga will return home to host the Owen Sound Attack tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m.

The Majors present Paint The Rink Pink 2 on Friday, February 13 in partnership with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation for the second consecutive season when they host the Barrie Colts at 7:30 p.m. Proceeds from tickets, sales and in-arena donations of that night will go toward the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Highlights of the evening will include an on-ice pre-game ceremony with Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion. There will be pink jerseys worn by Majors players, a silent auction in the week following the game, pink paraphernalia and of course, pink ice.
