Gaunce Selected for '09 Subway OHL All-Star Classic

Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga St. Michael's Majors are pleased to announce that Cameron Gaunce has been selected to represent the Eastern Conference at the 2009 Subway OHL All-Star Classic on Wednesday February 4 at 7:00 pm at the Windsor Family Credit Union Centre.

The event will showcase forty of the top players in the OHL with representation from each of the twenty member clubs, and will also feature a skills competition on Tuesday, February 3 at 7:00 pm.

Gaunce, a 6'1, 203 lb. defenceman from Markham, Ontario, was the Majors leading defenceman with 10 goals and 30 assists for 40 points during his rookie campaign with the Majors last season. He was also voted to the 2007-08 OHL All-Rookie Team and was a recipient of the 2007-08 Majors Tim Hortons Defenseman of the Year award.

The 18 year-old was the 2nd Round pick (50th overall) of the Colorado Avalanche at the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, and currently leads all defencemen on the team with 14 goals and 24 assists for 38 points in 43 games played this year.

Rogers Sportsnet will broadcast the game live in Ontario.

Mississauga takes on the Barrie Colts tonight at 7:30 p.m. on the road, and will return home to host the Owen Sound Attack tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. All Majors road games are available via webcast at www.stmichaelsmajors.com.

The Majors present Paint The Rink Pink 2 on Friday, February 13 in partnership with the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation for the second consecutive season when they host the Barrie Colts at 7:30 p.m. Proceeds from tickets, sales and in-arena donations of that night will go toward the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation. Highlights of the evening will include an on-ice pre-game ceremony with Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion. There wil be pink jerseys worn by Majors players, a silent auction in the week following the game, pink paraphernalia and of course, pink ice.
