Evansville Otters News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN - Evansville was defeated by a narrow score of 6-5 against the Gateway Grizzlies on Thirsty Thursday at Bosse Field. The contest was a defensive highlight reel that featured both teams making spectacular catches throughout the night.
Gateway would take a big early lead in the third inning after mustering five singles and a walk to make the score 4-0. However, the Otters would not go down without a fight. With runners at first and third in the bottom of the fourth, newly acquired Evansville outfielder, Jeff Gardner, put the Otters on the board with a double down the first base line to bring the Otters within striking distance at 4-2. During the next frame Evansville would pound out a double and an RBI single from Josh Allen and Christopher Riopedre to bring the score to 4-3. The Grizzlies would then go on to tack on an additional run in the seventh, causing the deficit to reach 5-3. On what was a continuous boxing match of trading runs, Evansville would score again in the seventh following a Rolando Gomez sacrifice fly to pull the Otters within a run at 5-4. Unfortunately, Gateway catcher, Tyler Tewell, would deliver a decisive solo homerun that would put Evansville away for good in the ninth. Although, the scrappy Otters would not be finished silently as Kaeo Aliviado crushed a majestic homerun in the bottom of the frame before the final out was recorded to make the score 6-5.
Looking ahead, Evansville will square off against the River City Rascals tomorrow, with first pitch slated for 6:35 pm CDT.
