Evansville Otters News Release
Washington, Pa. - After falling behind 3-0 early, the Otters got just one run off Washington starter Brooks Dunn, but got to the bullpen in the ninth for three runs and another series win. Recently acquired starter Billy Phillips kept the team in the game for seven innings, turning it over to Bradley Blanks (2-1) in the eighth. He would strike out the side in the frame and send it to the ninth in a three run game.
Daniel Burton struck out to start the ninth, but the pitch got away from the catcher and Burton sprinted to first. Luke Hetherington blasted a homerun to left-center to tie the score at three. After a pitching change, Ryan Bethel walked and with one out, Isaac Omura doubled off the top of the right field fence to plate the winning run.
Blanks would stay in to pitch the ninth, retired the first man he saw, then a walk and single later, Blanks got Brett Grandstrand to fly to right and that brought in Justin Smith to face the top of the order. Smith got Chris Sidick to roll out to second base for his fifth save of the season, and third since the trade of former Otter's closer Jon Lewis.
Evansville goes for the sweep, and their sixth straight win, tomorrow night at 5:35 CDT with Justin Jordan on the mound against Mike Schellinger for the Wildthings.
