OHL Owen Sound Attack

Otters Can't Stay Afloat, Attack Win 4-0

November 10, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack took on the Erie Otters for their first of two games this weekend, both vs. the Otters. The Bears were looking to bounce back after a rough weekend last week, losing both Saturday and Sunday against London and Hamilton, respectively. The Bears weren't playing around.

The first period started out slow with chances on both ends but either team unable to convert. Scrambles were seen in either end of the rink and the Attack landed multiple shots on goal, failing to find the back of the net. Erie pressure keeps the puck in the Attack end for much of the last half of the first period but Guzda made some great saves to keep the scoreboard blank.

With just under 5 minutes left in the first period, the Bears open scoring when Cade Robinson snuck the puck past Otters netminder Daniel Murphy. The play was assisted by Kevin Hancock and Brady Lyle.

With that momentum, Erie's Chad Yetman is sent to the box for hooking and the Attack sniped another goal on the powerplay. Nick Suzuki found the back of the net with assists from Hancock and Maskim Sushko to bring us up 2-0. Hancock's assist brings him to 134 career assists, making him the 10th All-Time for assists in Owen Sound.

Period one ends with 14 shots on goal from Owen Sound and 4 from Erie, presented by Mark McDade Chestnut Park.

The second period remained slow as well until the Bears had a huge scoring chance 5 minutes into the period. Erie's netminder Murphy mishandled the puck and a loose puck hung in the crease for what seemed like eons, but the Attack failed to get a stick on it before Murphy batted it out.

Carter Robertson headed to the box for hooking at 12:42 into the second to put Erie on their first powerplay of the game. The Bears killed the penalty to keep the Otters scoreless.

Aidan Dudas takes a slapshot from the top of the circle but can't find the back of the net. Moments later, Dudas passes the puck to Brady Lyle who snipes it in for his second goal of the season, bringing the Attack up 3-0.

Mark McDade shots on goal in the second period were 17 for Owen Sound, 9 for Erie.

About 5 minutes into the third period, Nick Suzuki finds the back of the net once again for his 15th goal of the season, and second of the game. Igor Chibrikov and Kaleb Pearson assisted the play to bring the score to 4-0.

Otter's Jack Duff gets caught boarding and is sent off to the box, sending the Attack to another powerplay opportunity. Score stayed 4-0. Doherty is called shortly after for checking from behind and it was Erie's turn for the powerplay.

With just over two minutes left to play, Bryce Caruk and Jack Duff get in a tussle in front of the Erie net, getting 5 minutes each for fighting. Buzzer goes, Attack win!

Owen Sound's Kevin Hancock earned first star honours with three assist on the night, while his captain Nick Suzuki earned the second start with 2 goal. Owen Sound netminder Mack Guzda earned third star honours with his 3rd career shut out, blocking 16 shots on the night.

Cade Robinson won the Hatten Home Hardware Hardest Working Player of the Game, voted by the fans.

At the end of three, Mark McDade shots on goal were 44-18, in favour of the Attack.
