COLUMBUS, OHIO - Jose Osuna hit a tiebreaking three-run homer in the fourth inning, and the Indians salvaged their series finale in Columbus on Father's Day, 6-3. The Tribe first baseman finished with a season-high four RBI in the win.
With the score level at three, Adam Frazier worked a walk and Jung Ho Kang singled sharply off the glove of Clippers shortstop Eric Stamets to set up Osuna's fourth long ball of the year. The no-doubter came on a 2-2 pitch from Cole Sulser (L, 2-3) - who was on in relief of starter Matt Whitehouse - giving Indianapolis (36-31) the lead.
Brandon Waddell (W, 2-2) took over for Tribe hurler J.T. Brubaker in the fourth and delivered two scoreless innings to earn the win.
Max Moroff hit his fifth home run of the season in the second to stake Indy to an early 1-0 advantage. Columbus (35-33) came back with three runs of its own in the home half, using an RBI single by Mike Papi, run-scoring fielder's choice and Kevin Newman fielding error to take a 3-1 lead.
The Tribe drew even in the third. Kang and Osuna strung together consecutive doubles to make it 3-2, and Moroff hit a sacrifice fly with the bases juiced to eventually tie the game.
Damien Magnifico tossed two shutout innings ahead of Bo Schultz (S, 2) who nailed down the final six outs for Indy.
The Indians have won three straight and seven of their last nine games on Father's Day.
Following an off day on Monday, the Indians return to Victory Field Tuesday night to open a six-game homestand against a pair of International League South Division teams, Norfolk and Durham. Right-hander Clay Holmes (5-3, 3.66) will oppose Tides righty Asher Wojciechowski (3-3, 4.09) in the opener. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. ET.
