Lehigh Valley IronPigs News Release
The IronPigs used a three-run seventh inning to down the Pawtucket Red Sox 3-2 Sunday at Coca-Cola Park. With the win, Lehigh Valley takes the four-game series, and holds on to IL North lead by 3.5 games over Buffalo.
The first half of the game went swiftly as Tom Eshelman stranded multiple baserunners through the first four innings. The PawSox eventually brought the first run of the game across on an error by second baseman Alexi Amarista.
Out of the bullpen, Austin Davis and Zac Curtis combined to keep the PawSox scoreless into the ninth. Pedro Beato was unable to pick up the save, allowing a run while facing four batters, and being lifted for Tom Windle. Windle entered the game with the bases loaded and no outs, but needed just nine pitches to record the final three outs and record the save.
The Pigs' offense could not break Chandler Shepherd of Pawtucket, as the right-hander held Lehigh Valley scoreless on only three hits through six innings of work. Lehigh Valley immediately pounced on Tyler Thronburg out of the bullpen in the seventh inning, as Matt McBride slugged a two-run home run to put the Pigs on top. Nick Rickles drove in an insurance run for the Pigs on a groundout.
Joey Meneses bounced back for Lehigh Valley, with a 2-for-3 day at the plate with a run scored, while Logan Moore went a perfect 3-for-3, all singles.
The Pigs will have Monday off, but they return to play on Tuesday when they begin a six-game road trip starting against the Scranton-Wilkes Barre RailRiders. Enyel De Los Santos will take the mound at PNC Field for Lehigh Valley on Tuesday, with first pitch coming at 7:05.
The Pigs return home next Monday, June 25, for a four-game set against those same RailRiders.
