May 23, 2016 - Texas League (TL1)
Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TEXAS - Highly-touted prospect Luis Ortiz allowed one run over six innings and picked up the win his Double-A debut Monday for the Frisco RoughRiders, the Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers, who knocked off the San Antonio Missions, 11-1, at Dr Pepper Ballpark.
Ortiz (1-0) came out firing, allowing just two hits, while striking out five over his first three innings of work. The right-hander didn't allow a run until the sixth inning, when Yeison Asencio doubled in the only run for San Antonio (13-30). In total, Ortiz worked six innings, scattering seven hits with one run, one walk and six strikeouts to earn the victory.
While Ortiz continued to take care of the Missions, the Riders (30-13) provided a heap of early run support for the 20-year-old, scoring a total of eight runs in the second, third, and fourth innings. After taking a 3-0 lead in the second, the Riders added to the damage against San Antonio starter Bryan Rodriguez (2-4) with two more runs in the third. The Riders had another three-run inning in the fourth, including a two-run single from Ryan Cordell.
Four Riders finished with multiple hits, including Ronald Guzman, who went 3-for-5 with two doubles. Zach Cone tallied a pinch-hit double in the sixth and a three-run home run in the eighth that capped the scoring outburst, tying the most runs scored in a game this season and providing Frisco their most lopsided win of the year.
Monday's game was played in front of a crowd of 10,587, bringing the total over the four games against San Antonio to 42,767 fans. That sets the team's four-day attendance record, besting the previous mark of 42,360 (May 18-21, 2012).
With the homestand complete, the Riders head back on the road for a six-game trip, starting with three games in Tulsa Tuesday through Thursday. Tuesday's series opener begins at 7:05 p.m. from Tulsa's ONEOK Field. Live coverage can be heard on the Frisco RoughRiders Radio Network, the TuneIn Radio App, and the MiLB First Pitch App.
The RoughRiders return home next Tuesday, May 31 to begin a six-game homestand against the Tulsa Drillers and the Springfield Cardinals. The homestand includes Superhero Night on Saturday, June 4th.
