Northwest Arkansas Naturals News Release

SPRINGDALE, Ark. - The Northwest Arkansas Naturals (20-23) fell to the Tulsa Drillers (20-23) on Monday afternoon by the score of 4-2 in front of a crowd of 5,887 at Arvest Ballpark. The Naturals split the series against the Drillers, 2-2.

The Tulsa Drillers received a solid outing from their starter Trevor Oaks (4-1, 3.00 ERA) as he kept the Naturals offense at bay the entire afternoon. Oaks, the big right-hander, got the win by scattering five hits over 7.0 innings of work as he gave up one run and struck out five on the day. His counterpart Matt Strahm (2-4, 2.65 ERA) wasn't as sharp in defeat as the Naturals' lefty logged his shortest outing of the season by going 4.0 innings and giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits, two walks, and four strikeouts. Estarlin Cordero and Kyle Bartsch combined for 5.0 innings of one run baseball out of the Naturals' bullpen while Tulsa's Rob Rogers (S, 2) recorded the save.

Both teams put a run on the board in the second as Tulsa got an RBI double from Willie Calhoun while the Naturals got singles from Orlando Calixte and Cam Gallagher then used a double steal to bring home a run to tie the game.

Tulsa took advantage of a defensive mistake in the fourth to stretch the lead to 3-1. Calhoun singled and moved to second base on a two out single by Adam Law. Both Calhoun and Law would come around to score on a Brandon Trinkwon single to left that was misplayed by Logan Moon and resulted in a two base error. The Drillers added their final run in the sixth on a Calhoun solo home run. The Tulsa second baseman had himself a day going 4-for-4 with a single, two doubles, and a home run. He was thrown out at third base in the eighth looking for the cycle.

Today concluded the Naturals eight game homestand. Northwest Arkansas will hit the road tonight for three games in San Antonio and another three games in Corpus Christi beginning Tuesday, May 24 through Sunday, May 29 before returning to Arvest Ballpark to begin a six game homestand on Tuesday, May 31.

Northwest Arkansas will send RHP Jake Junis (3-3, 3.43 ERA) to the hill in the series opener tomorrow night while the Missions will counter with RHP Michael Kelly (1-0, 2.25 ERA). You can catch all the live play-by-play action with the Voice of the Naturals Benjamin Kelly on your home for Naturals baseball on KQSM 92.1 The Ticket at 6:45 p.m. for the Indigo Sky Casino Pregame Show leading up to first pitch at 7:05 p.m. at Wolff Stadium in San Antonio.
