May 23, 2016 - Texas League (TL1)
Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
Corpus Christi third baseman J.D. Davis is the Texas League Player of the Week, league president Tom Kayser announced today.
Davis, who wins the award for the second consecutive week, hit .406 with 6 runs, 4 doubles, 4 home runs and 9 RBIs for the period May 16-22.
All of Davis' 7 home runs have come in the last 15 games. During this surge, the 23-year-old from Elk Grove, CA, is 2nd in the Minor Leagues with 15 extra-base hits, batting 403 with 13 runs, 8 doubles, 7 home runs and 18 RBIs.
Davis, a 3rd round pick of the Astros in 2014 out of Cal State Fullerton, matched Domingo Santana's club record for home runs in a game, belting 3 while driving in 5 runs Thursday in San Antonio. He enters play tonight riding a 10-game hitting streak.
Davis is the first Hook to win consecutive TL Player of the Week Awards since SS Carlos Correa turned the trick to open 2015.
