
Opportunistic Offense Supports Wynkoop in 3-1 Win

Modesto, CA. - Jack Wynkoop was sharp again as the Modesto Nuts' offense put up some early runs on their way to a 3-1 win over the Visalia Rawhide on Friday night at John Thurman Field in front of 4,511.
Wynkoop (W, 6-2) allowed just one run, the first earned run he has surrendered in 24 August innings for the Nuts (24-31; 50-75). The southpaw struck out seven and allowed six hits, three of them recorded consecutively in the third to plate the lone Rawhide (227-28; 73-52) tally.
Collin Ferguson smashed a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning against Rawhide starter Justin Donatella (L, 4-3). After the Rawhide tied the game in the top of the third, the Nuts came back with two runs in the bottom of third. Shane Hoelscher smacked a RBI single to give the Nuts the lead. After the inning was extended on an error, Dom Nunez ripped a RBI single to extend the lead.
Luis Niebla (S, 13/14) worked around a leadoff single in the ninth to secure the three-game, series-opening win.
