Pimentel, Ports Shock Blaze in 10
August 20, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release
Sandber Pimentel could do nothing right at the plate on Friday night until Anthony Misiewicz finally left the game.
Pinned down to an 0-3 performance with three strike outs, Pimentel got off the floor and he brought some friends with him.
Pimentel's 10th inning RBI single scored Mikey White as the Stockton Ports charged the field when their first baseman helped shock the Blaze, 6-5.
In a game full of emotions, Banner Island Ballpark saw a performance that felt like postseason action.
Drew Jackson and Gianfranco Wawoe helped Bakersfield stake an early 2-0 lead in the first.
Jackson singled then advanced to third on Wawoe's hit to left field. Jackson scored on a wild pitch by Kyle Friedrichs before Kyle Petty tripled home Wawoe.
The lead lasted just a few minutes after John Nogowski hit a 2-run homer off of Misiewicz to tie the game at 2-2.
Misieiwicz showed flashes of brilliance by striking out a career-high nine batters, but he surrendered three home runs in the game and five runs during his six innings of work.
Friedrichs left the game after six innings with a lead.
The right-hander struck out nine, walked one, and gave up three runs in his effort. Unfortunately, the bullpen could not hold things up for the San Diego native as he is now winless in his last 11 outings.
Carlos Navas walked Chantz Mack and Jay Baum in the eighth before Kyle Petty's RBI single made it 5-4 Stockton. Joe DeCarlo grounded out to short, but with the infield playing back, Baum was able to tie the game at 5-5.
Pimentel's clutch single off of Darin Gillies (L, 2-1) helped bring the Ports within five games of the Blaze in the second half of North Division play as they registered their first win this season against Bakersfield at home (1-3).
The same two teams will play in Game 2 on Saturday night. David Gascon will have the call from Stockton starting at 7:00pm on TuneIn Radio and BakersfieldBlaze.com.
