Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release

San Jose, CA-- Tim Shibuya gave the Quakes seven scoreless innings and Rancho Cucamonga made it two in a row on their current road trip, prevailing in Friday's series-opener in San Jose, defeating the Giants by a score of 6-0 at Municipal Stadium.

In their 125th game of the season, the Quakes finally earned their first shutout of the year, as Shibuya combined with Kevin Brown to become the last Cal League team to nail down a blanking in 2016.

Shibuya (2-0) scattered six hits and walked one over his seven scoreless, striking out four batters while throwing 103 pitches. Brown worked a pair of perfect innings to finish it off, giving the Quakes four wins in five games on their current road-trip.

Michael Ahmed, who had two hits and two RBIs, put the Quakes ahead 1-0 in the second, as he blasted his 16th homer of the year off Giants' starter Mark Reyes (8-8). An RBI triple by Dion Toscano later in the inning put Rancho up 2-0.

Yusniel Diaz ripped a two-run double in the fourth, as the Quakes built a 4-0 lead.

That lead held until the ninth, when the Quakes got a couple of insurance runs. Ahmed struck again for an RBI double, then scored on an RBI single by Brandon Trinkwon, making it 6-0.

The Quakes (29-26, 71-54) now have a nine-game lead over Lake Elsinore in the Wild Card standings with just 15 to play in the regular season. On Saturday, the Quakes will look for a third straight win overall. San Jose will go with Cory Taylor, who'll be making his Cal League debut. Rancho Cucamonga has not yet confirmed a starter for Saturday's 5pm game.

After the seven-game road trip concludes, your Quakes will return to LoanMart Field on Tuesday, August 23rd for another Healthy RC Recycle Tuesday, as fans that bring ten CRV-eligible bottles or cans will receive a free Club Seat Ticket to the game. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you at LoanMart Field very soon!
