Bay Area Panthers News Release
MORGAN HILL, Calif. - The Bay Area Panthers of the Indoor Football League are hosting open player tryouts for local athletes trying to make the 2023 roster.
Players will go through drills similar to the NFL scouting combine: 40-yard dash, broad jump, three-cone drill and maximum repetitions of 225 pounds on the bench press.
"There are a lot of guys who have worked hard," said Head Coach and General Manager Darren Arbet. "This is an opportunity to show how hard they've worked and what kind of talent we have in the Bay Area."
During his hall of fame career with the San Jose Sabercats of the Arena Football League, Arbet did have open tryout players make the regular season roster and also pointed out that Rob Keefe, the Panthers Defensive Coordinator made an AFL roster after an open tryout.
Arbet will be assisted at the tryouts by coaches from Sobrato and Westmont High Schools, Gavilan College, ex-players and local youth football coach Michelle Farias.
Tryouts will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25 at Live Oak High School with registration starting at 7:30 and introductions at 8:30. The cost is $65 on Saturday and $50 with early registration on the team website. On the day of the tryout, cash only with no checks or credit cards accepted.
The Panthers will take 40 players to training camp in early March with the final roster trimmed to 25 before the regular season opener against Arizona at the SAP Center on March 26.
