MWL1 Quad Cities River Bandits

Ool tabbed Post Season All-Star

August 24, 2005 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

Former Swing of the Quad Cities pitcher Kevin Ool was one of 14 players named to the 2005 Midwest League Post Season All-Star Team, the league announced Wednesday. Ool - voted the team's left-handed reliever - becomes the first Quad Cities player to be named to the Post Season All-Star Team since 2002, when the River Bandits boasted catcher Joe Mauer and outfielder Jason Kubel.

Acquired during spring training in a trade with Boston, the 24-year-old Ool was lights out in the first half. From April 16 to May 27, he strung together a nine-game winning streak that helped him earn a spot on the Midseason All-Star Team as well. The southpaw out of Marist College went 9-2 overall for the Swing with three saves, posting a 2.15 ERA in 30 appearances and holding opposing hitters to a .194 batting average.

Ool was promoted to Palm Beach of the Florida State League the day before the all-star break, and went 1-0 with a 1.37 ERA in 12 games for the Cardinals. That was good enough to earn another promotion, on July 24, to the Double-A Texas League. With Springfield Ool has appeared in 10 games, going 1-0 with a 6.39 ERA and ten strikeouts in 12.2 innings.

Other notable winners from the Midwest League's announcement were South Bend and Peoria. The Silver Hawks not only had three representatives - Cesar Nicolas (1B), Carlos Gonzales (OF), and Matt Elliott (RH Reliever) - make the team, but they also swept the Post Season Awards. Gonzales was named the league's Most Valuable Player as well as its Prospect of the Year, while skipper Mark Haley was voted the circuit's Manager of the Year. Peoria also had three representatives, as Eric Patterson (2B), Ryan Harvey (OF), and Sean Gallagher (RH Pitcher) were honored for the Chiefs.
