Nolen Promoted to AAA Iowa, Chiefs Add Two Relievers

PEORIA, IL- The Peoria Chiefs, in conjunction with the Chicago Cubs have announced that reliever Walt Nolen has been promoted to AAA Iowa of the Pacific Coast League. His promotion, along with those of Michael Phelps and Tim Layden on Monday leaves the Chiefs roster at 22 players for Wednesday night's game. Pitchers Michael Hyle and Jeffrey Teasley will join the Chiefs in time for Thursday's home game against West Michigan.

In 37 appearances with the Chiefs in 2005, Nolen was 7-4 with a 4.61 ERA. He started on Friday in game two of the Chiefs double header in Quad Cities and took the loss allowing seven runs in five innings. He went 1-1 in two starts and won six times out of the bullpen this season. Signed out of McNeese State in June 2004, Nolen struck out 60 in 66 1/3 innings this season and help opponents to a .234 batting average. He is expected to be with Iowa for their first game in New Orleans on Wednesday night which is just 200 miles from his native Lake Charles, LA.

Hyle was a 22nd round draft pick in 2005 out of the University of Georgia. With the Northwest League's Boise Hawks this season, Hyle was 3-5 with a 3.18 ERA in 15 games, seven of which were starts. He made his last three appearances out of the bullpen and is expected to be a reliever with the Chiefs. Hyle struck out 37 and walked 20 in 45 1/3 innings. The 23 year old right-hander was 3-5 this season at Georgia with a 4.54 ERA in 14 starts. He is a native of Marietta, GA and played high school ball at Lassiter High School with former Chiefs outfielder/catcher Tyler Parker.

Teasley was signed in June 2005 as a free agent out of Point Loma Nazarene University in California. In 20 appearances with Boise, Teasley was 1-0 with a 5.19 ERA and four saves. In 26 innings he struck out 28 and walked 12. The right-hander has earned saves in each of his last three outings and has posted a 0.75 ERA in 12 August appearances. Teasley transferred to Point Loma Nazarene from San Diego State University for his senior season and posted an 8-2 record and a 2.54 ERA. He was a NAIA Honorable Mention All-American and All-GSAC. The Cubs drafted him in the 38th round in 2001 out of Grossmont High School which is also the alma mater of former Chiefs second baseman Mike McCoy.

The Chiefs play Wednesday night at Quad Cities at 7:00 PM. Peoria Enters the game 26-31 on the half, six games out of first and 3.5 games behind in the Wild Card race. Peoria has 13 games left on the season including eight at home. The Chiefs next home game is Thursday August 25th against the West Michigan Whitecaps at 7:00 PM.
