Cleveland Monsters News Release
For the second night in a row, the Lake Erie Monsters (0-2) lost a one-goal game to the visiting Abbotsford Heat (2-0). This time, by a 1-0 score Saturday night at Quicken Loans Arena. Paul Byron gave Abbotsford the lead in the first four minutes of the game, and the score stayed the same throughout the duration of the contest.
The Heat defeated the Monsters 2-1 Friday night in the 2011-12 season opener.
Byron's goal came on the power play at 3:31 of the first; his wrist shot from the right wing circle was the only puck to get by Lake Erie's Trevor Cann on the evening.
The Monsters failed to convert on six power play opportunities, including a 48-second stretch of five-on-three power play time in the second period. Abbotsford was one-for-five with the man-advantage.
Starting his second straight game, Cann turned away 28 pucks on 29 shots while falling to 0-2 on the season. Leland Irving, the American Hockey League's leader in shutouts last season with eight, stopped all 19 Lake Erie shots he faced.
The Monsters will be in action again on Friday, October 14th, when they host the Rochester Americans.
