ALBANY, N.Y. - The first five minutes of the Albany Devils 2011-12 season went according to script with a goal 4:23 into the game. However, the Springfield Falcons spoiled the Season Opener, 6-3, Saturday at the Times Union Center in front of 4,286 fans in attendance.

Darcy Zajac netted the first goal of the season, going top shelf off a pass from Chad Wiseman.

"We came out with a lot of energy; maybe too much," Zajac said. "I guess there are a little butterflies regardless of how old you are."

The Devils momentum was short lived as the Falcons answered with four-consecutive goals, starting at 7:28 by Aaron Bogosian.

Nick Holden made it 2-1 with a one-timer, power-play goal at 9:44 and Brent Regner closed the first period scoring at 9:44.

Nicholas Drazenovic added to Springfield's lead, 4-1, at 1:27 of the second.

Anderson cut into the deficit at 4:49 of the second with help from Joe Whitney - his first career point.

Cody Bass reclaimed a three-goal lead for the Falcons with a power-play goal at 9:02, but defenseman Matt Corrente made it 5-3 at 9:31 of the third.

Springfield's Dane Byers concluded the scoring at 10:46.

Jeff Frazee got the start in goal; he had 18 saves on 24 shots. At the other end, former RPI netminder Allen York had 27 stops on 30 shots.

The Devils return to action Sunday with a 4 p.m. contest against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.
