Omaha Lancers News Release

OMAHA, NE. - After picking up their first six point weekend of the season last week, the Omaha Lancers were looking to continue that winning streak into tonight (3/18).

The Lancers are just 2-4-0-1 against the Musketeers this season, as they are the one team in the western conference that Omaha has a losing record against.

The opening period in tonight's matchup was controlled by Sioux City right from the get-go. As 17:34 into the period, shots on goal was 11-4 in favor of the Musketeers.

Right then is when Omaha attempted to flip the script.

In that last 2:26 of the period, the Lancers put up five shots on goal with two quality scoring chances. But were unable to sneak any shots by Musketeers goaltender, Alex Tracy, as the first period came to a close tied 0-0.

The Musketeers came out quickly in the second period, scoring two goals in the first four minutes.

Owen McLaughlin picked up his 23rd goal of the season on a backdoor one-timer off a pass from Dylan James, and Ben Doran netted his eighth of the year after a lucky hop on Omaha goalie, Kevin Pasche. Giving the Musketeers a 2-0 lead.

After 13 minutes of evenly matched hockey, Sioux City took the 3-0 lead on a power-play caused by a questionable call on Morgan Winters. The goal came off the stick of Garrett Slukynsky with just over three minutes left in the period.

All signs pointed toward the Musketeers taking their three goal lead into the first intermission, but then Cam Mitchell and Ralfs Bergmanis picked up fighting majors at the 17:38 after an insane 30+ second display of balance.

Just 11 seconds after play resumed, the Lancers pulled within two goals as Michael Cameron chipped the puck to Jared Wright who was able to beat Tracy glove side, making it a 3-1 game heading into the second intermission.

The third period consisted of multiple scoring chances from Omaha, but the lone goal came off the stick of Charlie Schoen from the opposite side of the red line into the empty net to take the 4-1 victory.

With that win, along with Des Moines and Sioux Falls losing, the Musketeers became the second team in the league to clinch a spot in the Clark Cup Playoffs.

With Lincoln taking down Des Moines, the Lancers fall to fourth place in the western conference once again, with a magic number of four as they are still on the push to clinch a playoff position.

The Lancers will be back in action tomorrow (3/19) for Teacher Appreciation Night as they take on the Lincoln Stars. Puck is set to drop at 6:05PM CST. Any teacher that shows their teacher ID at the box office will receive a free ticket!

The game can also be caught on HockeyTV and Mixlr.
