Record-Breaking Night Ends with Storm Victory

WATERLOO, IA. - A record-breaking night for the Tri-City Storm organization ended in a 4-2 road victory over the Waterloo Black Hawks at Young Arena on Saturday. Two major individual records were broken during the game as the Storm won its fifth game of the year against the Black Hawks. Storm defenseman Mitchell Miller broke former Storm defenseman Ronnie Attard's USHL record for most points recorded by a defenseman in a single season during Friday's 1st period. Miller notched his 66th point of the year on a powerplay goal during the game. Storm forward Jeremy Wilmer broke the Storm organization's team record for most assists in a single season on the same play. Wilmer passed former Storm forward Jaden Schwartz with his 51st assist on the season on Miller's goal. Wilmer recorded two additional assists during the game and has notched a league-leading 53 assists this season.

Graham Gamache scored his ninth goal of the season on the powerplay at 2:20 of Saturday's 1st period to give Tri-City a 1-0 lead in the game. Cole O'Hara and Gavin Brindley each recorded an assist on the play. Ray Fust scored his 10th goal of the year for the Black Hawks less than one minute later to bring the game to a 1-1 tie. The goal was netted on the powerplay and was assisted by John Waldron and Garrett Schifsky. The Storm's record-breaking goal was scored on the powerplay at 10:13 of the 1st period to give the team a 2-1 lead in the game. Mitchell Miller broke the USHL's single-season record for points scored by a defenseman, and Jeremy Wilmer broke the Storm organization's record for most assists in a single season on the scoring play. Tri-City outshot Waterloo 16-8 in the 1st period and carried a one-goal lead into Saturday's 2nd period.

Gavin O'Connell tied the game for Waterloo at 8:48 of the 2nd period. The goal was O'Connell's fifth of the season and was assisted by Connor Brown and Ray Fust assisted on the play. The Storm took another lead in the game at 11:14 of the period on a goal scored by Mason Wheeler. The goal was Wheeler's second of the season and was assisted by Ilya Nikolaev and Jeremy Wilmer. Waterloo outshot Tri-City 12-4 in the 2nd period.

Sebastian Wraneschitz was replaced in goal by Arsenii Sergeev to start the 3rd period for the Storm. Sergeev finished the game by making 10 saves on 10 shots in the 3rd period. Waterloo lifted goaltender Emmett Croteau for an extra attacker with just over two minutes remaining in Saturday's game in an attempt to tie the score. Graham Gamache scored his second goal of the game and 10th goal of the season at 18:16 of the 3rd period to seal the Storm's win. Jeremy Wilmer and Mason Wheeler each notched an assist on the scoring play. Waterloo outshot Tri-City 10-9 in the 3rd period and 30-29 overall in the game.

Sebastian Wraneschitz notched his eighth victory of the season in goal after making 18 saves on 20 shots in the opening two periods of the game. Emmett Croteau recorded the loss in goal for the Black Hawks after stopping 25 of the Storm's 28 shots on goal. Wraneschitz improved to 8-2-0-0 on the season in net for Tri-City with the victory. Emmett Croteau dropped to 12-12-2-0 in the loss in goal for Waterloo.

Tri-City improved to 37-9-20 in the win and remains the 1st place team in the USHL's standings. The team will return home to the Viaero Center for back-to-back home games next weekend following tomorrow's road contest against Des Moines. Friday night's game is "Agriculture Night" and Saturday's home game is "Pucks N' Paws Night". Each game will be played against the Omaha Lancers.
