Storm Drops Opening Game of Weekend to Black Hawks

WATERLOO, IA. - The Tri-City Storm dropped the opening game of the weekend Friday night to the Waterloo Black Hawks by a final score of 5-4. Tri-City surrendered three unanswered goals in the 3rd period after holding a 4-2 lead. Gavin Brindley, Mitchell Miller, John Druskinis, and Mason Wheeler each scored in the game for the Storm. Tri-City returns to action tomorrow in another road game against Waterloo. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:05pm CT.

Garrett Schifsky netted a powerplay goal at 7:41 of the 1st period to give the Black Hawks a 1-0 lead in the game. Gavin Brindley scored his 14th goal of the season at 18:44 of the period to bring the game to a 1-1 tie. Brindley's goal was assisted by goaltender Arsenii Sergeev. The assist for Sergeev was his second of the season. Waterloo outshot Tri-City 9-7 in the 1st period and the 2nd period began in a 1-1 tie.

Mitchell Miller scored his 15th powerplay goal of the season to give the Storm a one-goal lead less than two minutes into Friday's 2nd period. Miller's goal was his team-leading 28th of the season and was assisted by Matt Basgall and Ilya Nikolaev. John Waldron tied the game at 7:02 of the 2nd period on the powerplay. John Druskinis netted his second goal of the season less than thirty seconds later to give Tri-City another lead in the game. Druskinis' goal was assisted by Graham Gamache and Josh Eernisse. Mason Wheeler scored his first goal of the season with six minutes left to play in the 2nd period to give the Storm a 4-2 lead. Wheeler's goal was assisted by Ilya Nikolaev and Mitchell Miller. Waterloo outshot Tri-City 13-10 in the 2nd period.

Connor Brown scored the Black Hawks' first goal of the 3rd period to bring the team within one goal of the Storm's lead. The goal was scored at 9:22 of the 3rd period. John Waldron netted his second goal of the game at 11:29 of the 3rd period to tie the game at 4-4. The goal was scored on the powerplay. The final goal of Friday's contest was netted by Owen Baker with less than four minutes to play. Waterloo outshot Tri-City 36-31 in the game.

Emmett Croteau recorded the win in goal for the Black Hawks after stopping 27 of Tri-City's 31 shots on net. Arsenii Sergeev stopped 31 of Waterloo's 36 shots on goal and recorded the loss in goal. The Storm's four-game winning streak was snapped, and the team fell to 36-9-2-0 in the loss.
