The RedHawks lost 6-4 in 12 innings to Redbirds when Joe Mather hit a one out, two-run home run to give Memphis the victory. Oklahoma took an early lead on Jason Botts third home run of the season, a two-run shot off Anthony Reyes in the first. The Redbirds eventually got to RedHawks starter Elizardo Ramirez, scoring once in the third, and taking a 4-2 lead after seven full innings. Oklahoma scored once in the eighth and once in the ninth to tie the game and send it to extra innings. The RedHawks managed baserunners in each of the extra innings, but none made it to second base. After Brian Barden singled, Mather hit the first Kaz Fukumori pitch out of the park to end the game in the Redbirds favor.
A WELCOME RETURN:
Nelson Cruz took the field for the first time in a week during last night's loss. Cruz went 3-6 and raised his average nine points to .345. Nelson had not played in the field since game one of the RedHawks May 8 doubleheader, and had not batted in a game since two late at bats in Oklahoma's May 9 loss to Sacramento.
FOX OUT:
Adam Fox was transferred to Frisco earlier this week to clear a space on the Oklahoma roster for Travis Metcalf. Fox hit .121 in ten games for the RedHawks with four hits in 33 at bats. The infielder started all ten games at third base during his stint in Oklahoma and made two errors during that span.
OLD FRIENDS:
Taylor Teagarden and John Mayberry will face today's Memphis starter for the second time this season. P.J. Walters, like Teagarden and Mayberry, began the season in double-A. Walters and was Springfield's opening Day starter facing Frisco on April 3. Teagarden went 1-3 off Walters with a single and a run batted in, while Mayberry went 0-3. Walters managed to strikeout each player once, but took the loss as Frisco won the game 6-3.
MEMPHIS AT A GLANCE:
Yesterday marked the second time this season that Memphis has gone to extra innings while playing Oklahoma. The Redbirds have also gone to extra baseball twice against New Orleans and once against Las Vegas, and are now 2-3 in extra inning games this year... Joe Mather has hit two of his six home runs off RedHawks pitchers. Mather's first home run of the season was a three-run blast off Bill White on April 4 in a 10-6 Memphis win.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION:
Texas had the day off... Frisco belted Midland 16-9... High Desert beat Bakersfield 4-1... Clinton doubled up Beloit 4-2.
DOT-DOT-DOT:
Jason Ellison and Casey Benjamin are the only RedHawks who have played in all five games against the Redbirds this season... The RedHawks tallied runs in the first inning last night for the first time in eight games. The RedHawks streak spanned their entire eight-game homestand after scoring in the first inning of a 2-1 loss May 5 during the last game of their previous roadtrip... Oklahoma pitching coach Andy Hawkins has been receiving some attention lately in the national media as Arizona Diamondbacks starter Brandon Webb approaches Hawkins 1985 season-opening win streak. Hawkins won his first ten starts for San Diego that season. Webb has won his first nine this year for Arizona.
ON THE AIR:
