TODAY'S OPPONENT:
The Round Rock Express are the Triple-A affiliate of Houston Astros. The have been a member of the Pacific Coast League since 2005. Express was the Double-A affiliate for Houston 2000-2004. Last year, Round Rock finished first in the American South with a record of 85-59.
TODAY'S GAME:
Game 16 of the season, and first game of four-game road trip.
LAST GAME:
Nashville scored the go-ahead run in seventh to beat RedHawks 5-4. Josh Rupe started for RedHawks and allowed four runs in five innings for a no-decision. Franklyn German gave up a run in the seventh for the loss. David Matranga led the way for the 'Hawks at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
VS. ROUND ROCK:
The Express won the season series last year 10-6, and lead the overall series 20-12. RedHawk hitters hit .248 with 11 homers vs. Express pitching last year. 'Hawk pitchers had a 4.22 ERA vs. the Express.
PITCHING MATCHUP:
Francisco Cruceta will make his third start of the season for Oklahoma. In his last start, Cruceta didn't allow a run in six innings of work for a no-decision. The Express will send Jared Gothreaux to the mound. Gothreaux went 0-2 in three starts against Oklahoma last season.
FIRST GAME:
The RedHawks are 4-0 this season in the first game of a series.
LEAVING THEM LOADED:
The RedHawks are still looking for their first hit with the bases loaded (0-12) with three RBIs this season.
LOOKING FOR LONG BALL:
RedHawks are last in the PCL with only four total home runs on the season. Last season, RedHawks hit 20 home runs in April.
BYRD FLYING HIGH:
RedHawk OF Marlon Byrd is 8-for-15 with a double, a triple, an RBI and a run scored in the last four games. Byrd has seen his average go from .290 up to .381 during the last four games.
GETTING ON BASE:
CF Freddy Guzman has reached base in 12 consecutive games by hit or walk. Guzman went 1-for-5 yesterday against Nashville.
BULLPEN STILL TOUGH:
German took the loss yesterday, but for the season the bullpen has been tough. In 44.2 innings this season, RedHawk relievers have a 1.01 ERA. They have 48 strikeouts and have only allowed five runs.
BIG INNING BITES STARTERS:
'Hawk starters have had trouble avoiding the big inning this season. They've allowed three or more runs in an inning nine times this season. The starters are 3-7 combined with a 4.54 ERA.
JUST GET TO THE SEVENTH:
The RedHawks have been outscored by their opponents 53-33 in the first six innings this season, but the 'Hawks have outscored their opponents 14-3 the final three innings.
