Barker, Bellorin lead way in 7-1 win over Portland

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Sean Barker was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs, and Edwin Bellorin had four hits to lead the Colorado Springs Sky Sox to a 7-1 victory over the Portland Beavers at Security Service Field Saturday night.

Alberto Arias (1-1) was effective in a spot start for the Sky Sox (4-10), allowing just one run and scattering eight hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Jentry Beckstead pitched two scoreless innings for his first save.

Vincent Sinisi had an RBI double in the sixth among his three hits for the Beavers (7-10), who also got two hits apiece from Luke Carlin and Royce Huffman.

Despite holding the Sky Sox to two runs over six innings, Ryan Ketchner was the recipient of the loss. Ketchner (0-2) yielded nine hits and struck out two.

Mike Thompson, who joined the Beavers Saturday after being optioned down from San Diego, gave up five runs and seven hits in two innings in his first relief appearance for the Beavers.

Holding a 3-1 lead, the Sky Sox struck for four runs off Thompson in the eighth. Barker, who was a double shy of hitting for the cycle, drove in two runs with a triple to left. Joe Koshansky added an RBI double and scored when Bellorin followed with a double.

Colorado Springs got out to a 2-0 lead with an RBI single by Bellorin in the fourth and a sac fly from Koshansky that scored Seth Smith in the fifth. Barker hit a solo homer in the seventh, his second of the year.

The Beavers and Sky Sox continue their series Sunday at 12:05 p.m. (Pacific).

NOTES: Before the game, the Beavers activated Thompson and placed pitcher Tim Stauffer on the disabled list ... the Beavers are 2-7 on the road and have been scored upon first in 15 of their 17 games ... after logging 13 extra-base hits at PGE Park on Friday, Portland had just one among its 11 hits in the series opener against the Sky Sox.
